Gene Edwin Sligh

Gene Sligh was led into his new home in heaven on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Faithful is the word to best describe him. Born on April 18, 1937 to Johnnie and Zema Sligh. At 12, he placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized in the Saline River at Jenkins Ferry. For over 75 years he was a faithful church member at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church and in 1972 became faithful as a deacon to serve for 50 years. He was faithful to serve his country in the National Guard from 1957 to 1964.

He was faithful for 59 years to his wife Ann, who the Lord called home February 2020. He was faithful in his example as father to his sons. He was faithful for 30 years to the plumbing profession and solved many plumbing issues for friends or relatives. He was faithful in the maintenance department to turn out the lights and close the doors at Rohr, Inc. in Sheridan to step into his retirement. He lived his life cultivating, not only in his vast gardens to feed his family and many others, to share time in his relationships, friendships and service to others, “because everyone needs help.” 

He is survived by his sons, Clay (Linda), Olathe, Kansas, William (Jennifer), Kansas City, Missouri, Terry (Karen), Beavercreek, Ohio, his cousins, many church members and friends. While loved by many, his gentle nature and kind manner will be missed. 

The visitation and funeral service will be held at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Prattsville on Thursday, December 12, 2024, visitation at 11am and funeral service at 12pm followed by graveside at the Philadelphia Cemetery.
