Ethel H. Braden, age 96, of Sheridan departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at North Metro Hospital in Jacksonville. She was born March 23, 1913 in Grapevine, Arkansas, a daughter of the late George and Ella White Hulse. Mrs. Braden graduated from Sheridan High School in 1933 where she was a star player for the Sheridan Ladys Basketball Team. After high school, she graduated Beauty College and worked for many years with Eugene Wave Salon in Little Rock. Mrs. Braden also worked at McCoy - Tygart Drug Store in the gift department until she retired at age 80. Earlier she was involved with the Sheridan High School PTA and Band Club and was very involved with civic activities, helping with fund raisers for cancer drives and heart drives. Mrs. Braden was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan, and a Past Worthy Grand Matron of the Eastern Star. She was also preceded in death by her husband Arthur Braden; two brothers, Ed Hulse and Floyd Husle; sister, Berta Watson.
Mrs. Braden is survived by her son, James Braden of Clinton, Arkansas; grandson, Joel Stephen Beau Braden of Jacksonville, Arkansas; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Sheridan. Burial will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
