Dupree Townsend

Mr. Dupree Townsend was born on February 12, 1931 to the late Grady Townsend, Sr. and Inez (Ridgeway) Townsend of Rison, Arkansas. He suddenly transitioned on March 8, 2008.

As a young man, he left Rison, AR and moved to Chicago, IL. He later joined the United States Marine Corps, serving two years from 1952 to 1954.

He married Thelma (Sturdivant) Townsend in November 1956. From this union they had one daughter, Clarice E. Townsend.

Mr. Townsend joined Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was a spiritual man who held his own beliefs and personal relationship with God.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, shooting pool, and spending time with his family and friends.

He leaves to treasure his memory his daughter Clarice E. Townsend of Chicago, IL; granddaughter Brittany M. Townsend of Chicago, IL; his brother Lawrence Townsend of Rison, AR; his special nephew raised like a brother Ray Fuller of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Marilyn (Townsend) Fuller of Chicago, IL and Syble (Townsend) Lee of Little Rock, AR; a host of nieces nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Grady Townsend Jr., Rufus Townsend and Leroy Stack Townsend. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p. m., Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Union Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery near Rison.
