Dorothy Helen Langford Merritt McCallister age 87, of Pine Bluff, went home to her heavenly father on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. She was born June 4, 1924 in Bradley County, a daughter of the late James Hiram Langford and Pearlie Towery Langford. Mrs. McCallister was a homemaker, a gifted seamstress and well known for her bakery products. She was very active in her community, having volunteered many hours of service with VIPS school, JRMC auxiliary and the nursing home. Mrs. McCallister was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Pine Bluff, where she was a member of the Pearl Burenham Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Catherine Smith and Ann Crook; a brother Gordon Langford; nieces, Linda Davenport Ray and Sonya Langford; nephews, David Langford and Steve Crook.
Survivors include her husband, Mack McCallister of Pine Bluff, whom she married July 1, 1982; son and daughter in law, Randall Earvin Merritt and wife Janice of Ft. Smith; daughter, Donna Faye Harrison of Tetiona, Idaho; four grandchildren, Leah McCallister of Tetiona, Idaho, Jason McCallister of Perryville, Rhonda Sutterfield and husband Michael of Cabot, Ashley Stanley and husband Dylan of Clarksville; four great grandchildren; sister, Mary Sue Davenport and husband Alvin, of White Hall; five brothers, James and Betty Langford of Fordyce, Gerald Langford of Prescott, Arizona, Glynn and Charles Langford of Kingsland, Rayburn Langford and wife Jo Ann of Prairie Grove, 24 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends.
The family wants to say a special Thanks to the Pearl Bureham class of First United Methodist Church for all the visits, calls and love shown to her family during her illness.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at Buie Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Fleming and Reverend Edna Morgan officiating. Visitation will follow the service, with a private burial in Hebron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8003 Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71611.
