David Hobson

Dewey David Hobson, age 85, of Rison died Friday, October 30, 2015 in the Hospice unit of Greenhouse Cottages of Southern Hills in Rison, Arkansas. Mr. Hobson was born December 7, 1929 at Rison, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Dewey Hobson and Rachel Childress Hobson. He graduated from Rison High School in 1947 and enrolled at Arkansas A & M College (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello) for two years prior to enlisting in the Air Force in 1950 for four years during The Korean Conflict. After completing his military service, he returned to A & M and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, graduating in 1957. Following his graduation from college, he was employed by R. G. Varner Steel Products as a draftsman. This small business grew and was later known as Varco Pruden, a nationally known prefabricated metal building company. After thirty-two years with this company, he retired as Quality Control Manager at the Pine Bluff plant. Survivors include his wife of thirty-six years, Molly Ingram Hobson of Rison, whom he married May 12, 1979; a sister, Barbara Counce and husband Cecil Counce of Camden; a nephew, Steve Counce and wife Diane of Hoover, Alabama and their children, Rachel and Andrew, and a niece, Carol Nunneley and children, Davis, Golda and Greta of Fayetteville, Arkansas. A private family memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Varnell Cemetery in Rison with Reverend Don Johnson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Varnell Cemetery Fund, Margaret Rodgers, P. O. Box 203, Rison, Arkansas 71665. Cremation arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Rison.
