David J. Earnest, Jr

David J. Earnest Jr., age 74, of Rison went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 13, 2016. He was born October 19, 1941 in Warren, a son of the late David Jackson Earnest Sr. and Georgia Marie Rogers Earnest. Mr. Earnest was a graduate of Star City High School. He retired from his career after many years with International Paper. David loved doing any activities that involved the outdoors especially fishing. He was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Earnest was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joyce Earnest; grandson, Taylor Foster; brothers, George "Pete" Earnest, William Earnest and sister, Catherine Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Owen Earnest of Rison; son, David D. Earnest of Rison; daughter, Joyce Foster and husband, Tobie of Star City; grandsons, Davy Earnest and Levi Thrower, both of Rison, Austin Foster of Star City; step-sons, Jim Crofford of Afton, Virginia, Owen Crofford of Watson; brothers, J. D. Earnest of Pine Bluff, Marvin Earnest of Star City; sisters, Jeanette Vontungeln of White Hall, Doris Caldwell of Ruston, Louisiana, Virgie Havard of Lucedale, Mississippi, Carolyn Jo Robinson of Star City, Ann Ashcraft of Bella Vista, Geneva Courtney of Rison.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Buie Funeral Chapel in Rison with Brother Ronald Young officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Rison. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the funeral home in Rison. Pallbearers are Jeff Earnest, William Earnest, Rogers Earnest, Ricky Caldwell, James Courtney, Bill Hines and honorary pallbearer, Sam Welford. Memorials can be made in honor of Mr. Earnest to an organization of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Rison.
