David Alan Whisnant, of Sherwood, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord, on October 08, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 70. David was born on October 14, 1947, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He graduated in 1965 from Little Rock Central High School. David was raised by his grandparents, John and Laura Goin and his mother, Evagene. As a young lad, he worked in his grandfathers business, Goin Dry Goods on Asher Avenue. Later, while still a young man, he worked as a shoe salesman for an uncle. In addition, He served as a Corpsman in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War where he was wounded at Hue City Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. He also received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, and FMF Combat Insignia. His unit received the Presidential Unit Citation and Naval Unit Citation. He retired from the North Little Rock Police Department as a Sergeant. After his retirement, he worked as a Lieutenant at the V.A. Hospital. He retired from the North Little Rock Police Department as a Sergeant. He was a member for thirty years of Sherwood First Church of The Nazarene where he served as a Sunday School teacher, an active board member, President of NMI, and a Children's Church Leader. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, secretary of the Retired Uniformed North Little Rock Officers Association. He was a self-taught master gardener. In his spare time, he enjoyed canning and fishing. He never met a stranger, to know him was to love him. He had a passion for all children and especially his children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Jones Whisnant of the home; son, Charles Whisnant (Vicky) of Mayflower; two daughters, Laura Inmon (David) of Sherwood; Susan Phillips (Jason) of Sherwood; one brother, Steve Whisnant (Norma Jean) and sister, Sheila Riddle (Randy) of Vilonia; seven grandchildren, Adam; Maria; Emily; Jack; Simon; Mollie and George; five great-grandchildren, Jace, Justice, Charlotte, Adleigh, and Ellie Mae. He is preceded in death by his Mother Evagene Goin, and a son, David Adam Whisnant. A Celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 15, 2018, at Sherwood First Church of The Nazarene 8800 AR-107, Sherwood, Arkansas 72120 with Pastor Nicole Cotton, Pastor Jeff Taylor, and Pastor Larry Taylor officiating. Burial will be at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery 1501 West Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock, AR 72120 with honors by the North Little Rock Police Department.
