Charlie Owen Ashcraft, age 90, of Rowell passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, peacefully at his home with family. He was born January 23, 1934, in Herbine, to the late Jack and Hester Ashcraft. After moving to Rowell he attended Woodlawn School. After high school he married the love of his life, Margie Nell Johnston and then he joined the U.S. Army. He trained state side and afterwards he was stationed in Germany for 2 ½ years. While in Germany he was assigned to the 370th Battalion rifle and pistol competition team and also the 11th Airborne Division Rifle and Pistol Competition Team and spent the next 20 months competing in competitions across Germany. After his service in the Army he worked at the Cotton Belt Railroad for 42 years. He worked the night shift at the railroad, but during the day he would work at the welding shop/gas station that he and his wife owned at Rowel. At this shop he made countless numbers of trailers, trailer hitches, cow feeders for people in the county. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather (Pops) brother, friend and man of faith. Mr. Ashcraft was a member and deacon of Center Baptist Church. He loved to work in his shop and doing anything outside. Most of all, he loved being around family and friends. It would make his day to get pictures of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren on his phone. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother John Ashcraft.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Margie Ashcraft, two sons, Steaven (Jan) Ashcraft of Little Rock, Greg (Susan) Ashcraft of Little Rock, brother, Carter Ashcraft of Hot Springs, sister, Jan Ashcraft Mills of Lonoke, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
