Charles T. Rodgers

Charles T. Rodgers Sr, age 89 of Rison, died Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born March 4, 1918 in the Pleasant Ridge Community near Rison, a son of the late Charlie and Lillian Orton Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers graduated from Glendale High School. He was a meat cutter for Safeway before opening Rodgers Grocery, where he was in business for over thirty years. Mr. Rodgers was a charter member of the Rison Economic Development Organization, lifetime member of Farm Bureau Board of Directors, member of the Cleveland County Fair Board and the Arkansas Cattlemen Association. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Rodgers was also preceded in death by one grandson, Brad Rodgers, four brothers, Bert Rodgers, Jack Rodgers, J. W. Rodgers, Bennie Rodgers; three sisters, Okie May Rodgers, Gladys Mossier, Helen Simpson.

Mr. Rodgers is survived by his wife, Ruby Hale Rodgers of Rison, whom he married on August 20, 1943; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Claudia Rodgers of Rison; brother, Robert Rodgers of the Pleasant Ridge Community; sister, Virginia Rodgers of the Pleasant Ridge Community; granddaughter, Jennifer Dedman and husband Rob of Rison; granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie Baker Rodgers of Rison; three great grandsons, Charles Baker Rodgers, Caleb Ryan Dedman, Dylan Everett Dedman all of Rison.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Buie Funeral Chapel in Rison with Reverend Jim Stone and Reverend Don Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at Buie Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Grady Wilson, Jack Winston, Bert Rodgers, Roger Mossier, Jack Rodgers, Smitty Dedman, Rob Dedman and Brent Terrell. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Glover, Robert Simpson, David Dedman and Brett Rodgers.
