Charles Dewey Harmon

Charles "Dewey" Harmon, 81, of Kingsland, Arkansas, passed away, Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. John's Place of Arkansas Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fordyce, Arkansas. Dewey was born in Hamburg, Arkansas, August 03, 1933 to George and Mary Harmon. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1953 and later that year he married Dolly Cook Harmon. They lived in the Houston, Texas area until 1966. He moved his family to Star City, Arkansas in 1966. He spent many years running Harmon Plumbing Company in Star City. He moved to El Dorado, Arkansas in the late 1970's and worked for plumbing companies there. In 1989 he went to work for the Arkansas Health Department as the state plumbing inspector, a job he loved. He retired from there in 1999 and built a house in Kingsland, Arkansas. He spent his new free time deer hunting, fishing, gardening, camping and visiting with friends and relatives. He could sit for hours talking with people about anything and loved remembering the old times. He planted his garden every spring and spent countless hours working in it. In his spare time he watched his favorite TV show, Gunsmoke. He was very much loved by a lot of people and he left cherished memories in their hearts. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolly Harmon, three daughters, Glenna Riddell and husband, Mark of Spring, Texas; Sonya Ashe and husband, Curtis of Crossville, Tennessee; Kim West of Smithville, Texas; two sons, Charles "Chip" Harmon, and David Harmon of Kingsland, Arkansas; two sisters, Joyce Raborn of El Dorado, Arkansas; Charlene Edmonds of Crawford, Nebraska; one brother, Eugene Harmon of Monticello, Arkansas, eighteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Green Harmon, two daughters, Rhonda Martindill and Tracy Beal; four brothers, Jake Harmon, Roy Harmon, Norris "Tiny" Harmon and Bobby Harmon; and two sisters, Margie Neer and Ouida Brossette. A memorial service will be held in his memory Saturday , May 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home in Rison, Arkansas. 302 North Main Street, Rison, AR 71665 (870) 325-6216. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Arkansas Cancer Institute, 7200 S. Hazel St., Pine Bluff, AR 71603.
