Charles Alex George

1952 - 2023

Charles was born on February 8,1952, in DesArc, Arkansas to Wilma Jean Robinson and the Late Alex George. He lived a life deeply rooted in faith where he was baptized at his home church of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Des Arc, Arkansas at a young age. He served as an active member and a mentor throughout his last days of life. For over 40 years, he devoted his life to education. He held a High School Diploma from Des Arc High School in 1969, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Social Work from Arkansas (Lyon) College in 1973, and a Master of Education in Adult Education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1992. Known as Mr. George to students, he truly left no child behind, making a way for troubled youth with his Boys Town Program. This program aimed at troubled teen males to attain their GED, life skills, coping mechanisms, and become rising leaders in society. He held various prestigious roles throughout his academic career, including North Central Arkansas Development Council (1985-1991), City of Little Rock Task Force for The Prevention of Youth Violence (1992- 1995), City of Batesville Housing Authority Board of Directors (1995-2000), and Kiwanis International Batesville, Arkansas Chapter(1997-2000). Charles received the State of Arkansas Adult Education Director of the Year Award in 2006 and was a part of the Arkansas State Adult Education Advisory Council from 2011- 2023. He retired in 2000 as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs from the University of Arkansas Batesville and continued a distinguished career as Director of Adult Education, University of Arkansas Hope & Texarkana where he spearheaded the Alternative Education Program and worked diligently even when his health declined. He will be missed especially by his children and grandchildren, with whom he spent countless hours swing, and stroller-pushing, chasing, attending pageants, track meets, and numerous other activities. He was a huge fan of all Western and classic sitcoms - especially Gunsmoke. No family gathering passed without Spades breaking out, often choosing his mother as his partner. Charles was also an avid historian and storyteller, who worked tirelessly on his family tree and genealogy. Charles was strong-willed and passionate; he had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences and never met a stranger, no matter how far from home. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly. With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, we express the passing of our kind, brave, caring and unimaginably generous husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, relative, friend, Charles Alex George. Charles passed away on July 23, 2023, at Little Rock, Arkansas surrounded by loved ones and his devoted and loving wife of 22 years, Shaun George, after a long battle with cancer.
