Charles O. "Charley" Baxter, age 84 of the Sulphur Springs Community near Pine Bluff, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 19, 2013. He was born August 1, 1929 in Cleveland County, a son of the late Charles Estes "Bo" Baxter and Grace Pierce Baxter. Mr. Baxter was a graduate of Watson Chapel High School and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Baxter retired from the Pine Bluff Arsenal where he was an electrician. He loved softball, hunting, fishing, cooking and NASCAR, but most of all, he loved his faithful companion of fourteen years, Spunk, his dog. Mr. Baxter was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirlene Brown Baxter; son, Mike Baxter; daughter, Denise Baxter Poll. Mr. Baxter is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Sherry Baxter of Pine Bluff, Chuck and Monica Baxter of Dardanelle; step-son and daughter-in-law, Geary and Ruth Waddle of Hollis; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Betty Baxter of Pine Bluff, Jerry and Pat Baxter of Ethel; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends; he really appreciated and loved his nephew and caretaker, Ricky Baxter. Graveside services are 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Ramick Cemetery with Brother Billy West officiating. Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital. Cremation arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870) 325-6216.
