Bonnie Jean House Rhodes

May 25, 1931 — February 1, 2016

Bonnie Jean House Rhodes , age 84, a resident of White Hall since 1965, went to her Heavenly home on February 1, 2016, to be with her beloved husband of 63 years Carlton E. Rhodes , Sr.

Bonnie was born on May 25, 1931, at Thornton , Arkansas to Joseph Franklin House and Maybell Neeley House. She attended Thornton schools and was a graduate of White Hall High School.

In 1949 she married the love of her life , Carlton ( Carse) Rhodes at Corinth , Mississippi. She was a proud Army wife who followed her husband to many bases throughout the United States and Europe. They had four children: Carlton “Butch” Rhodes, Jr.( Melissa); Janie Rhodes Burton (Russell) ; Judy Carole Rhodes; and Eric Rhodes. They were blessed with four grandchildren : John Matthew Rhodes ( Rae); Megan Rhodes Miller ( Jason); Mack Rhodes; Dylan Rhodes and twelve great- grandchildren and one brother: Bill House (Bobbie) and two nieces: Wanda Blackwell (Ron); Karen House Henn (Rich) and half-sister: Frankie Sisson (Robert) and a host of family and friends.

She was a member of Lee Memorial and First Baptist Church of White Hall for fifty years where she taught 4-5 year olds in Sunday School for 16 years and was a member of the “Young at Heart” Senior Citizens group.

She wore many hats: she was a retired realtor, dedicated member of the Jefferson County Democratic Women, and the Mermaids at Trinity Village. She had a “green thumb” as anyone could tell when they drove by her house.

Bonnie was a loving and giving person. If there was a neighbor in need Momma was sure to be there. If someone was going through a difficult time there was a card in the mail or a visit. She was a Southern Magnolia and a lady in every sense of the word. She never left the house unless make-up, hair, and clothes were done to her liking. She was active in her community all her life. She felt very blessed to live in White Hall and always wanted to work to make the city better. Bonnie was a staunch “Yellow –dog Democrat” and proud of it. Even in her last week she was campaigning by phone. She was also a devout Christian. She always said,”Your actions speak louder than your words. You never know how far a kind word or a good deed will travel to touch a person in need.” Momma taught us all how to feel loved, how to be loved and how to give love. Because of you, Momma, we know love which is the greatest gift of all.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 4th 2016 at 2:00 at First Baptist Church in White Hall. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 at the church. She will be laid to rest at Black Cemetery in Cleveland County.
