Bobby Charles Granderson of Rison, passed away October 31, 2018, at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. He was born on June 27, 1937, in Rison, Arkansas, to the late Charles Lewis and Eugene Pennington Granderson. He was a graduate of Rison High School, Henderson State University and the University of Mississippi. He had many endeavors: teaching biology and chemistry, designing and building houses, investigating insurance claims, building roads, running a service station, running a water and gas pipeline company, working in the oil patch servicing wells in Oklahoma, laying some of the nation's first long-haul fiber optic cables, going to law school, learning to fly, getting a degree in child psychology, and running special-education programs in Houston. He especially loved being a “shade tree” mechanic, working on automobiles and any other kind of machinery or device, and helping anyone else do so, his entire life. He retired from the Houston, Texas, School District, in 2012. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, reading, working crossword puzzles, watching Arkansas and Texas sports, and the antics of his cat, Rachel.
He is survived by sons, Charles (Lori) of Catonsville, Maryland; John (Nicolle) of Houston, Texas; Joel (Shaneena) of Houston, Texas; sister, Patsy Jordan (Jack) of Monticello and Little Rock; two nieces; ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; an aunt, Ida Hightower of Rison; the mother of his sons, Shirley Norman of Fort Smith, Arkansas; numerous friends and relatives in Cleveland County and across the country; and his beloved cat, Rachel.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Drew Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and the doctors and nurses at CHI St. Vincent CVICCU in Little Rock.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. For those who wish to honor his memory, donations may be made to ASPCA, P.O.
