Billy Ray Gavin, age 77 of the Pansy Community, died, Tuesday, November 6, 2012. He was born April 5, 1935 in Baxter, Arkansas, a son of the late Clifton Harvey Gavin and Lillie Mae Webb Gavin. Mr. Gavin was a 1953 graduate of Woodlawn High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. Mr. Gavin was a master electrician in the construction industry. He was a fifty year member of IBEW local 295. Mr. Gavin enjoyed family time, especially with his grandchildren. He was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and horse racing. Mr. Gavin was a life time member of the Pansy Hunting Club and a Mason. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Gavin Triplett and Willie Gavin Grice; one son-in-law, Ricky DeWees. Mr. Gavin is survived by his wife, Virginia F. Gavin of Pansy, whom he married on October 1, 1957; two daughters, Tammie Gavin DeWees of Hot Springs, and Susan Gavin Sanders (Roger) of White Hall; two sisters, Evelyn Hoover of Pansy, Anna Laura Burdine of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, James Gavin "Jim" Sanders and Lauren Elizabeth Sanders, both of White Hall. Memorial services are 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2012 at Buie Funeral Home with grandson James Gavin Sanders officiating. A time of visitation will follow the memorial service.
