Avis Leah Van Winkle, 98 years of age, from Ballinger, Texas, fell asleep in the Lord on September 1, 2015. Mrs. Van Winkle was born to the Bradshaw family January 18, 1917 in Hill County, Texas. She married Dave Franklin Van Winkle on November 27, 1935 in Hillsboro, Texas. They were married 36 years before he preceded her in death.
She was the eldest daughter of Guy and Florence E. Nichols Bradshaw with four brothers, Eldred, John, Jim Bob, and Cecil Bradshaw which have all preceded her and was preceded by one sister, Edra Bradshaw Horn. She is survived by two sons, Charles R. Van Winkle and wife Phyllis Cooper of Rose Bud, and David Van Winkle and wife Paula Hampton of El Reno, Oklahoma; two sisters, Neil Bradshaw Dorner of San Angelo, Texas and Barbra Bradshaw Atherton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She will be remembered for her kindness and being a wonderful wife and mother; additionally after the passing of her husband in 1972, she served on many missionary endeavors to Africa, Australia, England, Italy, Alaska, and the Island of St. Croix.
During her 98 years she was a faithful and tireless servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, and devoted her life as a shining example of her Lord in every part of her life. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, but we rejoice in that she is at rest in the arms of a loving God.
A memorial and Celebration of Life is pending and will be announced at a later date.
