Andrew W. Brewster

October 4, 1961 — August 25, 2018

Rison

It is with profound sadness that we report the passing of Andrew Winfred Brewster on Saturday, August 25, 2018.  Andrew had been ill for many years with various pulmonary issues, most particularly Mycobacterium Avium Complex (“MAC”).  For the last 18 months, he was seeing a specialist in Tyler, Texas and exhibiting progress against MAC.  The medications were very strong and had serious side effects which made life difficult.  Still, his family, friends and caregivers had hope, and his sudden death was unexpected and heartbreaking.

Andrew was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on October 4, 1961.  He attended Brunswick School, Judson School (Arizona), Winchendon Prep (Massachusetts), and graduated high school from Walden Prep School in Dallas, Texas.  His work career was always limited by asthma and other breathing difficulties.  He worked for Metro Traffic Patrol in Dallas, broadcasting traffic reports from a helicopter.  Andrew began a radio career in Mexia, Texas.  He then worked in Winfield, Louisiana, Raleigh, North Carolina, and ended his career as a DJ on a radio station in El Dorado.  He had been unable to work for the last two decades.

Andrew was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Alma Ferguson, and his parents, John E. Brewster, Sr. and Elizabeth (Betty) Ferguson Brewster, all of whom were residents of Rison. He is survived by two older brothers, John E. Brewster, Jr., of Houston, Texas, and Bruce Ferguson Brewster of Mobile, Alabama.  The family is grateful for the care Andrew received from Justiss-Lindsey Clinic in Pine Bluff, Pulmonary Associates in Little Rock, Little Rock Allergy and Asthma Clinic in Pine Bluff, Tonya McCoy, R.N., and Dr. David Griffith and his administrator Tracy Drake at UT Health Science Center in Tyler, Texas.

Words of gratitude are also insufficient to express thanks to our cousin Dean Stephenson, Heidi Rauls, Melody and Joe Waltman, and Janet Wells, all of whom offered care and support to Andrew through many times of poor health and discouragement.  In spite of his illness, Andrew never gave up and fought for life to the end.  He is now at peace and well.

The family will gather for a private graveside ceremony on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery.  Reverend Gordon Ike Mohr will officiate.  In lieu of other remembrances, please make a donation in Andrew’s name to First Methodist Church, P.O. Box 468, Rison, AR 71665.  Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Rison.  Please sign the online guestbook at www.buiefuneralhome.com.  (870)325-6216
