Alexander G. Graham

April 20, 1945 — March 20, 2018

Alexander G. Graham passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at the age of 72 on March 20, 2018.  Born on April 20, 1945 in Washington D.C., Alex was raised by his loving mother, Frances Sheridan Graham, who preceded him in death.

After graduating from Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia, Alex enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 15, 1967. He went to Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. for basic training and was then based at Fort Devens, Massachusetts where he was recruited into the Army Security Agency. He was eventually stationed at Hakata Air Base, Japan as a Morse code interceptor. On September 15, 1971 Alex received an honorable discharge and returned to the United States, settling in Alexandria, Virginia.

He began his civilian career with the Department of Defense in 1994, working as a contracting officer. In 2003 he became a program analyst with TRICARE Procurement Support Office.  During his career, he received many certificates of appreciation and awards, including the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service, the highest medal awarded to any civilian DOD employee. He retired in April 2007 after more than 31 years and multiple success stories with the DOD Defense Security Service and Defense Contracting Command in Washington, D.C.

After retirement, he moved to Fordyce Arkansas, to be near his beloved sister, Sharon Crosby. He was an avid reader, loved working in his yard and fishing and spending spare time visiting family and friends.

Alex was a devoted and loving father and grandfather to Donna Marie Graham and 12-year old Ryan Alexander Graham, of Sarasota, Fl.

He will forever live in his daughter Donna, Grandson Ryan, sisters Sharon and Lynne V. Strawn, and several nieces and nephews.
