Albert Benson Robbins, 89, of Searcy, passed away May 2, 2020 at The Crossing at Riverside in Searcy. He was born May 6, 1930 at Searcy to the late Edwin and Mary Pickens Benson Robbins.
Mr. Robbins graduated from Searcy High School and attended The University of Arkansas where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Searcy. His great-great grandfather started the Robbins-Sanford Mercantile in Searcy where he worked as a young man. He learned the value of hard work and entrepreneurship working at the mercantile which inspired him to open his own store, Benson Robbins Men’s Wear on the Searcy town square after retiring from the Army as a Chief Warrant officer. He also had worked for the White County Sheriff’s office as the Chief Deputy Sheriff in the 60’s.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marianne Hilger; and brother, James Robbins.
He married Betty Ann Wilson Robbins June 6, 1959 at Searcy, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Stephanie Robbins of Shelbyville, Kentucky; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date when COVID-19 permits.
