Adell L. Rice

Adell Rice, 95, of Kensett, passed from this life March 4, 2016.  He was born February 18, 1921 at Searcy to the late Sylvester and Mary Johnson Rice.
He was a member of Centennial Missionary Baptist Church in Kensett where he served on the Men’s Ministry and was an Honorary Deacon.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge; served in the U.S. Army, receiving a bronze star; and retired from the railroad after 39 years.
He married Macie Hart Rice April 26, 1941 at Searcy; she preceded him in death October 1, 2014.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two daughters, Wilhelmina Rice Underwood and Laura Rice Steel; two granddaughters, Sandra Hudson Crosby and Nora Lee Nance; three sisters, Mary Alice Cummins, Beatrice Rice Johnson, and Trianna Burgess Lee; six brothers, Sterling Rice, Ernest Clay Rice,  Sylvester Rice Jr., Nobel Erby Jr., Hosea Erby, and James Erby; and biological father, Nobel Erby Sr.
He is survived by three daughters, Ardell Rice Nance (John) of Lincoln, Neb., Linda Rice Branch of Kensett, and Shirley Rice of Washington, D.C.; brother in law, Rev. James Hart (Lucille) of West Point; sister in law, Mattie Hart Young of Little Rock; special nephew, James Lee (Millie) of Austin, Texas; eighteen grandchildren; fifty-eight great grandchildren; and thirteen great-great grandchildren; as well as many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Centennial Missionary Baptist Church.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday also at the church with burial following at Crow Cemetery in Kensett.
